She rode from the stables owned and run by Miss Roach at Prospect, in an interview . Miss Roach was a good friend and Kathleen gave lessons for her to less experienced riders. Kathleen's favourite horse was a hack named Black Opal. In 1929, when she was twenty-one, Kathleen won a blue ribbon at the Royal Adelaide Show riding Black Opal.
