Trove Tuesday: Ready for the ring

In a memoir about my grandmother Kathleen (1908 - 2013), her son, my father, wrote that she remarked in an interview that when she was young she would often play golf in the morning and go riding in the afternoon – or go riding in the morning and play golf in the afternoon.

She rode from the stables owned and run by Miss Roach at Prospect, in an interview . Miss Roach was a good friend and Kathleen gave lessons for her to less experienced riders. Kathleen's favourite horse was a hack named Black Opal. In 1929, when she was twenty-one, Kathleen won a blue ribbon at the Royal Adelaide Show riding Black Opal.
